Tired of menstrual cycles? Here is a simple way to take your birth control pills so that you don't have a monthly cycle

Continuous Birth Control Pill Use

The history of birth control pill development is very intriguing and filled with many “medical myths.” The best example of this is that women actually want to have a menstrual cycle every month. As such, the designers the original pills included a seven day hormone free period to artificially create a menstrual cycle. However, there is no medical reason for this. In fact, may actually contribute to unplanned pregnancies of pill users.

As such, you may consider using your birth control pills continuously. Meaning, that you take a hormone containing pill every day. The result is that you will not have a menstrual cycle every month. A typical birth control pack has 21 “active pills” and 7 “placebo” pills. Take an active pill every day. When you come to the “placebo pills” start a new pill pack. You can usually do this for several months without having a menstrual cycle. If you start spotting or bleeding, stop the pills for 5 days, have a menstrual cycle and then start the process again. The same process can also be done with the birth control patch and ring.

This way, you can go several months with no bleeding. Please contact the office with any questions that you may have.
